Those who live in Germany cultivate an average of 4400m² of arable land through their food consumption . When shopping, everyone decides whether this area is in the vicinity, how large it is and what grows on it.
Seasonal foods from the region generate much less CO2 through short transport routes than products from other countries that are often flown in.
CO2 emissions by type of cultivation
Organic farming dispenses with chemical-synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. However, these are used in conventional cultivation. The production of these funds is associated with high resource and energy consumption and the emission of climate-damaging greenhouse gases. This CO2 emission does not apply to organic products.
The
Organic cultivation can permanently increase the humus content of the topsoil, which stores higher amounts of CO2 and removes it from the atmosphere.
